The process of entering graduate school
To enroll in a regular program (aimed at obtaining a degree), you must take and pass the entrance examination and interview conducted by Hirosaki University. Information regarding eligibility requirements, examination methods, and entrance examinations for each graduate school is provided below.
○ Eligibility requirements
Persons who do not possess Japanese nationality and who have completed 16 years (master's program) or 18 years (doctoral program) of schooling in a foreign country, or who are expected to complete such education by March of the year of enrollment.
In addition, those who are recognized by the graduate school as having academic abilities equivalent to those of a university graduate.
○ Entrance examination method
Selection will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of academic ability tests (written examinations and oral examinations) conducted by each graduate school, as well as academic transcripts. Examination methods and other details vary by graduate school, so please check the Admissions Office website or the websites of the Graduate School of Medicine or the Graduate School of Health Sciences for more information.
○ How to apply
I. Find a supervisor
Before applying to graduate school, it's a good idea to find a research advisor who can provide guidance in your field of study. Check the faculty information for master's and doctoral programs and contact the faculty members directly.

II. Obtain the application guidelines and application form.
The application guidelines can be viewed on the websites of the Admissions Office, the Graduate School of Medicine, and the Graduate School of Health Sciences, but you will need to obtain an application form in order to apply. Each graduate school usually distributes the application guidelines and application forms once or twice a year at a fixed time.
III. Application
Please submit the required application documents to the Admissions Office, the Medical Sciences Department, or the Health Sciences Department by the application deadline. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
* Pre-screening of eligibility requirements
Applicants with academic qualifications other than those required for admission must undergo a review before applying to determine whether they meet the eligibility requirements. For details, please contact the Admissions Office or the academic affairs office of each graduate school.
IV. Entrance Examination
Each graduate school has its own examination date. The entrance examination will be held at Hirosaki University, so please come to Hirosaki University to take the exam.
*For some exams, the pass/fail decision is based solely on document review, and there are no written or oral examinations.
