Hirosaki University is located at the northernmost tip of Honshu, the main island of Japan, in the center of the archipelago. Hirosaki City, which developed around the former castle grounds, maintains a rich traditional landscape surrounded by many historical sites, and is also a popular tourist destination that bustles with people during the cherry blossom season when the numerous cherry trees are in bloom. The city center is small enough to easily navigate, and through interaction with the close-knit community surrounding the university, students can improve their Japanese language skills and deepen their understanding of daily life in Japan.

1. Application Requirements

- Foreign students enrolled in faculties at foreign universities that have concluded inter-university exchange agreements with Hirosaki University (hereinafter referred to as "partner universities").

2. Academic Calendar

Our university operates on a two-semester system, and students can begin their academic year in either semester. They can complete one or two semesters.

3. Course Content

You can create your own curriculum based on your interests and passions!

International students must take at least seven courses per semester to meet the requirements for a student visa in Japan. You are free to choose which courses to take. You can select and combine courses from the following three main types:

○Short-term study abroad program courses: These courses are for exchange students from our partner universities.

○ Liberal Arts Courses

* If you wish to take general education courses or specialized faculty courses, you must attend the first class. At that time, please inform the instructor of your intention to take the course and obtain their approval.

* You cannot take specialized courses in the Faculty of Medicine.

* Most general education courses and specialized undergraduate courses are conducted in Japanese.

4. Tuition fees

If your university has an exchange student agreement with Hirosaki University, you will not need to pay tuition fees to Hirosaki University.

5. Housing

If your university has an exchange student agreement with Hirosaki University, you will be given priority in residing at the Hirosaki University International Exchange Hall (hereinafter referred to as the "International Exchange Hall").

However, if there are many applicants, it may not be possible to move into the International Exchange Hall. In that case, you will need to move into a student dormitory at Hirosaki University or a private apartment.

2 Private apartments near the university

You will need to rent a private apartment near the university (approximately 25,000-45,000 yen per month). The International Relations Office will introduce you to a real estate agent for private apartments.

To enroll in your desired semester, please submit your documents by the deadline.
All documents must be submitted in either Japanese or English. Documents not in Japanese or English must be accompanied by a Japanese or English translation.

Once we receive your application documents, we will conduct a qualification review at our university.
If your application is approved, we will send you an admission letter and a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Immigration Bureau. Please then proceed with the application process for a student visa.
