2026: University of Victoria, Canada is recruiting students to participate in its online course, "Mental Health and Substance Use."

Content

  • Learn about the use of addictive substances from a public health perspective, and study the concepts of overdose prevention and harm reduction.
  • Reduce prejudice against those involved and develop communication based on respect.
  • To deepen basic understanding of mental health.
  • This study explores the interrelationships between addiction, mental health, and homelessness.
  • Learn supportive ways of responding to situations of heightened conflict and tension without creating oppression.

  Online, self-paced learning [Study time: 6 hours]

■ Period

  2026年9月4日～2027年1月末

*During the period, each participant is expected to complete approximately 6 hours of self-study at their own pace.
*Please contact UVic Continuing Studies regarding the period during which you will have access to the course materials.

■ Course fee

 95 CAD (approximately 11,150 yen)
*Rates are as of March 21, 2026.

Hirosaki University will subsidize approximately 80% of the tuition fees.

Tuition fee subsidy process

① Internal application
Applied to Hirosaki University → Approved as a participant after review.

② UVicRegister and pay

After approval, register with UVic Continuing Studies, confirm that the application status is "Open," and pay the full course fee (credit card payment; keep your receipt).
*Courses marked "Full / Waitlisted" are not available for registration.

③ Course completion
Take an online course and obtain proof of completion (certificate of completion, certificate of attendance, digital badge, etc.).

4 Subsidy application
Submit your receipt and proof of enrollment to Hirosaki University → 80% of tuition fees will be subsidized.
*To receive the subsidy, you must complete the course and submit the necessary documents.By the end of AprilMust be submitted.

If it becomes eligible for a subsidy from Hirosaki University,➡ Student burden: approximately 2,200Yen
*The amount will fluctuate depending on the exchange rate.

■Eligible persons (Those who meet all the requirements are eligible)

　　1. Undergraduate or graduate students of Hirosaki University

　　2. Individuals who are enthusiastic about international exchange and are working to improve their language skills.

　　3. Those who can cooperate with a survey to be conducted after the completion of the program.

　　4. Those who attend online classes and actively engage in assignments and other tasks.
