International Night 2026 – A cultural exchange event connecting the world through summer culture.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Hirosaki University held its "International Night," an event showcasing the achievements and fostering exchange among its 5th cohort of Global Ambassadors. This year's theme was "Summer Around the World." Global Ambassadors, Hirosaki University students, and international students gathered to deepen their connections while sharing their respective cultures and summer traditions.
The Global Ambassador Program aims to deepen intercultural understanding and cultivate a global perspective through interaction with international students. The 5th Global Ambassadors served from October 2025 to July 2026, utilizing the experience they gained through activities such as the Language and Culture Swap to plan and manage this event.
The event kicked off with a live performance by Yuka, Mina, and Takeaki. Participants wrote their wishes on strips of paper and decorated bamboo branches with them, enjoying the atmosphere of a Japanese summer while singing Tanabata songs along to the live music.
Next, a slideshow introducing summer festivals and traditional cultures from around the world was presented. Students gave presentations and shared information about the summer culture of their hometowns and regions, using both English and Japanese. Participants learned about the different ways in which people spend their summers in various countries and regions, deepening their understanding of diverse cultures and languages.
Finally, we held a "Goldfish Scooping Relay," an adaptation of the popular Japanese summer festival game of goldfish scooping. Using origami goldfish lanterns and paper fishing rods made during the Language and Culture Swap, participants enjoyed the competition while working together as a team, filling the venue with smiles and cheers.
At the end of the event, we took a commemorative photo to share memories of the day. International Night was a valuable opportunity to deepen our connections and build new relationships while sharing languages, cultures, and traditions.
