[Study Abroad Destination] University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand
[Study Abroad Period] October 2024 to July 2025
[Types of Study Abroad] Long-term study abroad at a partner university
Motivation for studying abroad
My desire to study abroad stemmed from a wish to interact with people from different backgrounds and be exposed to diverse values.
Furthermore, I also wanted to grow significantly on a mental level by deliberately placing myself in an unfamiliar environment.

Reasons for choosing this study abroad destination
I chose New Zealand as my study abroad destination because I had the impression that it was safe and had a relatively stable cost of living.
Furthermore, because the options for exchange programs were limited to comprehensive universities, I decided to study at the University of Otago.

What it's like at the university where I'm studying abroad
The University of Otago is situated in a natural setting, and its campus is not too large, giving it a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
While many students were calm and gentle, there were also many sociable and proactive students, creating an environment where it was easy to interact with others.
Furthermore, the university had excellent facilities such as a gym, and there was a support desk for international students, so I was able to live there with peace of mind.
Recommended events and places
I highly recommend the morning market held in front of the train station on weekends.
Among them, the meat pie is a must-try.
Furthermore, as it is a region rich in nature, we recommend tourist attractions such as hiking spots where you can not only "see" the scenery but also "experience" it.
Memorable things
The most memorable experience for me was a mountain climb I spontaneously joined after being invited by a friend.
I was invited the evening before, and I'll never forget the experience of starting my climb at 2 AM the next morning and watching the sunrise from Roy's Peak.
It was a tough experience, but the sense of accomplishment and emotion it brought was even greater.
Also, joining a student computer club and being able to maintain contact with friends I made at a welcome BBQ, going to the gym and hiking together, are cherished memories.

What I learned through studying abroad and advice for those considering studying abroad
If I had to name the most important element for studying abroad, it would be "physical fitness."
Being exposed to an English-speaking environment for long periods of time was mentally exhausting at times, but my physical stamina allowed me to overcome those difficulties.
I highly recommend developing an exercise routine before studying abroad.
For those considering studying abroad, I recommend taking action early if you have even the slightest interest.
Timing is crucial when it comes to studying abroad; those who act early will have more opportunities.
