[Study abroad experience] Mr. Yuzuki Munakata, XNUMXrd year student in the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences

[Destination] Auckland University of Technology Language Center (New Zealand)

[Study abroad period] August XNUMX, XNUMX to September XNUMX, XNUMX (XNUMX weeks)

[Type of study abroad] Short-term study abroad at a partner university

What kind of preparation did you do before studying abroad?

I used to study words using a vocabulary book, but I thought I should have studied everyday conversation and simple grammar.

Please tell me the timetable of the language center

In the class, I used the grammar that the teacher taught me and enjoyed learning while talking with my partner and playing games. In addition to speaking and listening, elective classes included a barista class to learn about coffee.

What about extracurricular activities?

Friday activities were held every Friday, including visits to zoos and aquariums, and sports competitions.

In addition, an activity called "Ocha no Jikan" was held from time to time, where Japanese students and Japanese students who are interested in Japan interacted with each other.

What sightseeing spots do you recommend?

There were many shops near the school, so I went shopping on my way home from school. The supermarket was also a lot of fun looking at the products.I went on a sightseeing tour on Saturday.

Recommended attractions are Sky Tower, Devonport, Mount Eden, Waiheke Island, and the Coromandel Peninsula.

What have you learned through studying abroad?

After spending four weeks in New Zealand, I realized that I had become less concerned about what others thought of me and had gained more confidence in myself after returning to Japan.

During class, international students from other countries freely expressed their opinions, but sometimes it was difficult for me to even answer in Japanese.I thought it was the difference in how much I thought about things in my daily life, so I decided to get into the habit of thinking about things on a daily basis.

In New Zealand, I heard the opinion that "the Japanese work style is serious but inefficient," and I realized the strengths of the Japanese work style and the areas that need to be improved.I think my “job hunting axis” has changed.
