[Interview with international students vol.3] Zucker Alessandra (Italy: University of Catania)

From this year, we have started accepting exchange students from the University of Catania.I interviewed Alessandra, who is one of the first members.
I plan to stay at the university until March next year.
We asked Alessandra, who loves fashion, about her study abroad life.

ーPlease introduce yourself.

I'm Alessandra from Italy! I am 22 years old.She is a 1st year student majoring in Japanese and English in the Master's Program in Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Catania, Italy. When she was an undergraduate she majored in Japanese and Chinese, and from graduate school she majored in Japanese and English.

-What made you decide to study abroad?

I had been to Japan three years ago in Tokyo and two years ago in Kawasaki.A student majoring in Japanese at the University of Catania naturally came to Hirosaki because Hirosaki University was the only way to study abroad.

At Hirosaki Park

Hirosaki was cold.

I tried wearing a yukata

- How is life in Hirosaki?

I landed in Hirosaki in March, but I didn't expect it to be this cold. I came to Japan for 3 semester and 3 months, but I postponed it until March next year, so I'm a little worried about winter.I have to send winter clothes from Italy~

The food is delicious, and recently I went to Shigesaku to eat pork cutlet! It was delicious.I usually make and eat at home to save money. Most of them don't like pasta and spaghetti very much. There are a lot of penne and farfalle~ I make them with tomato sauce or seasoned with pistachio and bacon.Barilla pasta, which is famous in Japan, can be bought in Italy for 100 yen per kg.

Fruits are expensive in Japan. In Japan, one orange costs 1 yen, while in Italy it costs 100 yen per kilogram.a!We don't have hanami in Italy, we enjoy looking at orange and lemon trees, not cherry trees.

ーPlease tell us a little about your life in Italy.

It was an inconvenient distance from my parents' house to Ragusa, where the university is located, two hours by bus and four hours by train, so I started living alone when I was a student. My family is near Catania.
My grandfather makes wine and olive oil by hand, and there are many families in Italy who make wine by hand.So I didn't have trouble with wine every day.I'm strong against alcohol! No matter how much I drink, I never get drunk (laughs).
At noon on Sundays, the whole family gathers and eats while having fun talking.Espresso after dinner.I usually drink espresso about 5 times a day, even before going to bed at night.
The pasta is of course delicious, but I would also recommend the arancino and cannoli.

ーTo become a translator/interpreter in the future!

In the future, I would like to work as a translator/interpreter.I learned Japanese and English at university, but I learned French for three years in junior high school.I can read and write Korean. And Spanish!Spanish and Italian are similar, so you can understand each other even if you have a conversation in each language.
Now that I am in Hirosaki, I want to improve my Japanese even more.
