Extension of period of stay
The permitted period of stay as an international student is one or two years.If you wish to stay longer than that, you must extend the period through the prescribed procedures.
To apply for this procedure, go to the Aomori Port Branch Office of the Sendai Regional Immigration Bureau by the day before your period of stay expires.Applications are accepted from about three months in advance.

○Application for Extension of Period of Stay
○Certificate of enrollment
○ Transcript (regular students)
○Certificate from dean or academic advisor (research student/auditing student)
○Certificate of Acquisition of Credits (non-degree students)
○ Passport
○Certificate of Alien Registration
○ Fee 4,000 yen
○ Passbook in the name of the applicant (fill in and bring with you)
* Non-degree students, research students, and special auditing students
In addition to the above, a permit for extension and a statement of reasons for extension are required.
